This tool will allow anyone to transcribe images from any source so that I can add the transcriptions to the website.

To get started, you may want to print this instruction page so you can use it as a reference until you get used to using the tool.

Once you have opened the link at the bottom of these instructions, you will want to click on the Browse Items link at the left. You can then click on any of the available images to start or finish transcribing the information. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on the link that appears below the words Transcribe This Item. A new page will open with the image shown inside an image viewer. You can zoom in and out by clicking the plus(+)and minus(-) buttons at the bottom of the viewer to help you see the image. At the bottom of this page, click the word edit next to the words Current Page Transcription. This will expand a window that you can transcribe in. If there is already text in the window, then some or all of the transcription may already be done. Be sure to check this so you don't waste your time duplicating someone else's work. After you are finished transcribing, or if you want to save your work so you can continue later, click on the Edit Transcription box, at the bottom left of the text window. This saves the transcription to the database. I will be monitoring what is finished, and will be moving the transcriptions to an appropriate page on the website. Once an image is fully transcribed, I will remove it from the transcription pages. If you do a complete image, please email me to let me know.
